Panel upgrade questions

The questions we get on the phone.

What does a 200 amp panel upgrade cost in BC?

There is no single number. The price depends on whether the meter base and service mast also need replacing, how far the panel sits from the meter, and how many circuits carry over. We quote before we start, and the number you approve is the number you pay.

Do I need a permit for a panel upgrade in BC?

Yes. Panel and service upgrades require an electrical permit and inspection. We pull the permit and book the Technical Safety BC inspection on every qualifying job, so the paperwork your insurer wants is complete.

How long will my power be off during a panel upgrade?

Most residential panel changes are a one day job, with the power off for a few hours in the middle while we cut the service over. We schedule the BC Hydro disconnect so the outage lands in one predictable window.

Do I need 200 amp service for an EV charger?

Not always. Plenty of homes run a charger on 100 amp service with a proper load calculation or a load management device. We do the calculation first and tell you which option your panel actually supports.

Do you replace old fuse boxes?

Yes. Replacing a fuse box with a modern breaker panel is one of the most common jobs we do, and it is usually the first thing an insurer or a buyer's inspector asks about.
